13. Surface weevil: Attactogaster finitimus (Curculionidae: Coleoptera)

 

Adults cut the stem of seedlings at the time of germination under rainfed condition. It is a fairly large dark-grey weevil common in South India and causes some damage to young cotton in some years.  It is more abundant in the field following rains in October and November.
