4.  Corn worm / Earworm: Helicoverpa armigera, (Noctuidae: Lepidoptera)

Damage symptoms: Larva feeds on silk and developing grains.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bionomics: Adult is brown coloured moth with a ‘V’ shaped speck on fore wings and has a dull black border on the hind wing.  Larva is green with dark broken grey lines and dark pale bands; shows color variation from greenish to brown.

 

 

Management: Apply at silk drying stage either  carbaryl 10 D  25 kg/ha (or) spray carbaryl 50% WP 1.0 kg./ha in 500-600 L of water per ha.  Repeat the insecticidal application 15 days later
